Key Takeaways

  • The Rayleigh Lounge is scheduled to open in November 2026, ahead of the peak holiday travel period.
  • The lounge will feature dining areas, a bar, three private shower suites, fast Wi-Fi and views toward the Blue Mountains.
  • The lounge will initially accommodate around 80 passengers, with the capacity to expand to approximately 130 as demand grows.

The newly built Western Sydney (Nancy-Bird Walton) International Airport (WSI) has shared details of a soon-to-open lounge, known as The Rayleigh Lounge. This new international lounge is scheduled to open in mid-November just prior to the inaugural Singapore Airlines (A350) service to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), planned for November 23, 2026.

About Western Sydney Airport

The Western Sydney Airport is located about 30 miles (48 km) west of Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD). The WSI airport has two interesting and differentiating features not found at many other airports. Firstly, the WSI airport is open 24 hours a day and does not have curfew or limited capacity restrictions, which are in place at SYD. This means flights can operate at various times, expanding options and service to nearby customers. Secondly, this is the first major airport in Australia that does not have an on-site air traffic control tower. Instead, the airport uses a remote digital air traffic control tower. The remote tower consists of 20 cameras located atop a 148 ft (45-metre) mast, streaming video to remote controllers who communicate directly with pilots.

It is always exciting when a new airport (or lounge) opens, and I imagine people in Eastern Australia are very excited about this opening. The new airport began limited operations in July 2026 by operating cargo flights ahead of commercial passenger service. Commercial service will begin on October 25, 2026, with the first domestic flight operated by Jetstar with a morning service to Gold Coast Airport (OOL). Air New Zealand, Singapore, and QantasLink will also begin offering service to six announced destinations in the near future.

The Lounge

Once open, The Rayleigh Lounge will be the only lounge at the Western Sydney International Airport. The lounge is operated by dnata and will have an initial capacity for 80 passengers (with a future option to expand up to 130 passengers). The lounge is located on the mezzanine level, with views overlooking the airport and Blue Mountains.

Amenities

WSI CEO Simon Hickey said the lounge would offer travellers a place to relax, work or dine before their flights.

We're creating a premium airport experience that is distinctly Western Sydney. The Rayleigh Lounge will give travellers a welcoming place to dine, work or unwind before their flight, with thoughtful design, top-tier hospitality and views across the World-Heritage listed Blue Mountains, he said.

Access

Initially the lounge will serve eligible (Business Class passengers, PPS Club members, KrisFlyer Elite Gold members, and Star Alliance Gold members) Singapore Airlines passengers. Access with other airlines will be announced at a later time. There is no current information about day passes or lounge club memberships with Priority Pass or Dragonpass.

Press Release: Premium travel begins before boarding at WSI

Closing Thoughts

This new airport looks very promising with less expensive parking, no curfews, and the ability to handle planes as large as the A380. I will be very excited to see how this airport grows over the next couple of years and will keep my eye on any new lounges that open in the future.
