Military Airport Lounge Guide (includes USO and non-USO Lounges)
Below is a collection of 71 Military Airport Lounges and Military Courtesy Rooms located around the United States. Many of these lounges are operated by the USO, while 23 others are operated by private organizations. At its peak, there were 60 USO lounges at airports around the world; that number has since decreased to 48 lounges. These military lounges offer many amenities for eligible travelers, including snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, games, TVs, computers, charging, Wi-Fi, and more.
Access
Access rules vary from lounge to lounge, but all require some military affiliation. The USO has clear entrance rules for its lounges (also known as USO centers), while non-USO lounges vary by location.
USO Military Airport Lounges
Firstly, the USO focuses on current military personnel. "USO centers are available for the comfort and convenience of currently serving military personnel and their dependents." Including (Active Duty, Reserve, and Guard) and their dependents with a valid U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) ID card.
In addition, U.S military retirees with valid U.S. DoD ID cards (and their dependents with valid U.S. DoD ID cards) may enter and utilize USO centers. Gold Star Families/Families of the Fallen and their guests may enter and utilize USO centers (no DoD ID required).​
What is the difference between retired and veteran status?
Most simply, in the U.S., a veteran is someone who served in the military (for any length of time) and was honorably discharged. But a retiree is someone who has completed a full military career, usually 20 years. Retirees retain their ID cards to receive lifelong benefits.
In other words, all retirees are veterans, but not all veterans are retirees.
Non-USO Military Airport Lounges & Courtesy Rooms
Access to non-USO lounges and Military Courtesy Rooms varies by location. Most of these locations require proof of active, retired, or veteran status. Check with each lounge on access policies. - Always verify the eligibility requirements (active duty vs retired vs veteran, and whether dependents count).
- Ensure you have the correct documentation: military ID, boarding pass for same-day travel may be required.
