Airport lounges need a place to live, and anytime a new airport opens, it is time to celebrate. On September 9th, 2025, Southeast Asia opened its newest airport in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, located about 12 miles (20 kilometers) south of the city. This new airport replaces the 66-year-old Pochentong International Airport (PNH), which was previously Cambodia's main airport. The state-of-the-art Phnom Penh Techo International Airport (KTI) is the 16th-largest in the world, spanning 2,600 hectares (6,400 acres) and has the 5th-tallest control tower in the world, reaching 387 feet (118 m).

The airport has three runways and has earned a 4F-class designation from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which is the highest designation for both runway length and aircraft size, meaning it can accommodate aircraft of any size (including the A380).

The $2 billion airport is very new but aims to initially accommodate 13 million passengers annually. Currently, Techo International serves 34 destinations in 15 countries. Major carriers include Air Cambodia, Cathay Pacific, Etihad, and Singapore Airlines.

Foster + Partners designed the terminal with sustainability in mind. The airport has an on-site photovoltaic farm that provides most of the terminal’s energy. Inside the terminal, there are trees and other greenery, and rooftops inspired by traditional Cambodian roof design. The roof design provides natural light, eliminating the need for artificial lighting during the day.

Lounges

The airport currently has two Plaza Premium lounges (Plaza Premium and Plaza Premium First), but will most certainly grow as the airport continues to expand. The Plaza Premium Lounge is partnered with both DragonPass and Priority Pass.

Closing Thoughts

This airport is truly one of the most beautiful airports I have seen in a while. I love how the airport has embraced green design and incorporated regional architecture.
