Air France Announces Plans to Open Lounge at Miami Airport (MIA)

Miami International Airport (MIA) was once rated #1 in a 2023 report for the U.S. Airport with the Best Lounges. I do agree that from a diversity standpoint, MIA has a solid selection of lounge choices, but as far as quality, there is much room for improvement. There are currently ten lounges at MIA to choose from, as well as other non-lounge options such as Xpresspa. But, sometime in 2028, lounge options will expand even more with the addition of a brand-new Air France lounge.

The new Air France lounge will be located in Concourse H (South Terminal) on Level 3. According to a lease document from Miami-Dade County [PDF], it appears that this lounge will be situated somewhere above and between gates H12 and H15 (see map below).

This location is ideal, as it will be close to Air France's departure gates. The design will likely be modeled after other modern Air France lounges, characterized by a clean aesthetic. The lounge is reported to span approximately 7,400 square feet (687 m²) in total, with 1,000 square feet (93 m²) of that space being dedicated to an outdoor terrace, making it the only lounge at MIA with an outdoor patio (actually the only airport lounge with a deck in the state of Florida).

Air France is also expected to dedicate a special area for its La Première travellers. This area will offer more upscale services, including enhanced dining and beverage choices.

Air France currently operates one daily flight in each direction between Paris (CDG) and Miami (MIA) during the summer, which increases to twice daily during the winter months. Once opened, Miami will become the seventh U.S. location to have an Air France lounge. Currently, Air France has U.S. lounges in Boston (BOS), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK), San Francisco (SFO), and Washington Dulles (IAD).

Closing Thoughts

Until the new lounge opens, the best likely choice for Air France travellers will be the Delta Sky Club. Both Boston and Houston Air France lounges are partnered with Priority Pass. I do wonder if this Miami location will also be partnered to help make up revenue at times when Air France is not operating flights. Unrelated, I was recently at the Air France lounge at the Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and was less than impressed. The overall ambiance of the lounge was much in need of a renovation.
