Qantas Airlines is temporarily closing its two lounges at the Auckland International Airport (AKL) for renovation and expansion. The lounges will close on April 23, 2025, and open sometime in early 2026.

Both the Qantas Business Class Lounge and Qantas First Class Lounge are being closed since the renovation will require removing the wall separating the two lounges. The new lounge will be a single premium lounge instead of the two in the past.

The upgraded lounge will also expand from 244 seats to 340 total seats, resulting in a 40% increase in seating. The new lounge will feature an upgraded menu with a la carte, buffet dining, and a fully-stocked bar, including local New Zealand wines. The lounge will also feature additional shower suites, dedicated work areas, charging, and relaxation spaces.

With the closing of these two lounges, the Auckland airport will be down to just three operating lounges. Luckily, the Auckland Emirates Lounge was just renovated and is available to business class passengers, Platinum One, and Platinum frequent flyers members. Gold frequent flyers and Qantas Club level members can visit the Strata Lounge.

Closing Thoughts

Once done, this new lounge upgrade will provide passengers with much more comfort and amenities. The popular Qantas Sydney (SYD) to New York (JFK) has a stopover in Auckland, so the new lounge will be something for those passengers to look forward to, but in the meantime, those passengers might get a less optimal experience.
