Charlotte (CLT) Getting an American Express Sidecar Lounge in 2027
It seems like Centurion Lounges are having a growth spurt. There have been three recent announcements, including plans for a Boston Centurion Lounge, plus an announcement for a renovation and expansion of the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) location. But after rumors and city council meetings, it has officially been announced that Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) will be getting a Centurion Sidecar Lounge, which is expected to open in Concourse A sometime in 2027.
This will become the second Sidecar Lounge to join the recently opened Las Vegas (LAS) Sidecar Lounge. As in Vegas, this Sidecar will complement the existing Centurion Lounge located in Concourse D.
Sidecar by the Centurion Lounge is a welcome addition for passengers seeking a quick break with premium amenities, said Ted Kaplan, Chief Business & Innovation Officer, Charlotte Douglas International Airport. It reflects strong demand for premium spaces and our commitment to an elevated passenger experience.
The Charlotte Sidecar will merge Southern charm with contemporary elegance, incorporating rich textures and bespoke millwork that reflect the region’s history. The lounge will include a Blue Roast by American Express Coffee Bar and other amenities, including private restrooms, power outlets with USB charging, and high-speed Wi-Fi. The lounge will offer access to eligible card members within 90 minutes of flight departure.
Sidecar lounges are designed for solo and small groups of travelers who have limited time before their flight but are still seeking a premium, refined experience. Guests will be able to order gourmet small plates, signature cocktails, and wine via a QR code, and items are quickly delivered to their seats. The lounge will feature seasonal menus by The Culinary Collective and Bar Director, Harrison Ginsberg, will create locally inspired cocktails, while sommelier Helen Johannesen will curate the Centurion Lounge network wine program.

Closing Thoughts
I have not yet had a chance to visit a Sidecar, but I hope to later in the year. I really love the concept, but I do wonder how crowded they will be. Likewise, I do like the 90-minute-before-departure rule and think it will help reduce overcrowding.
