American Express Centurion Lounge SFO (Terminal 3) Closed Temporarily

Matthew Justice / May 27, 2025

As part of San Francisco International (SFO) Airport's Terminal 3 West - Modernization Project, the Centurion Lounge at San Francisco International has temporarily closed. A brand-new (T3) SFO Centurion Lounge is planned to open sometime in 2027. Prior to the new T3 Centurion Lounge opening, a temporary and smaller Centurion Lounge is scheduled to open in June or July 2025, near Gate D12 in Terminal 2, providing relief until the new Centurion Lounge is ready.

Lounge Alternatives at SFO

Luckily, San Francisco International has lots of other lounge and relaxation options to enjoy in the meantime. Actually, San Franciso (SFO) has the third most lounges (15) of any airport in the United States, behind LAX (19) and JFK (29). So you would be hard-pressed not to find something entertaining. For members of the American Express Global Lounge Collection (i.e., American Express Platnum card members), the following lounges are eligible: Delta Sky Club, Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, China Airlines Dynasty Lounge, Golden Gate Lounge, and The Club SFO. There are also numerous other non-lounge options, such as Yoga rooms, Sensory rooms, the Freshen Up Lounge, and the Outdoor Terrace Observation Deck, as well as many restaurants, including Priority Pass-eligible options like Mustards Bar and Grill and Lark Creek Grill.

Also noteworthy, all terminals at SFO are connected airside, allowing you to move between terminals without needing to exit or re-clear security.

Closing Thoughts

From what I have been reading, the new temporary lounge will be about 1/2 of the size of the previous SFO Centurion lounge, and therefore, I am expecting this temporary location to be very packed. I would personally use this opportunity to try the new Club Lounge (T1), the Delta Sky Club (T1), or one of the non-lounge options. It has also been reported that the D12 temporary lounge will not have a kitchen, so this will likely affect the food quality and options.
