American Express has announced that it will open a Centurion Lounge at Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) Airport sometime in 2026. This location will become the third Centurion in Europe (joining Sweden and the United Kingdom). Amsterdam is the fourth-busiest airport in Europe, so this addition makes solid sense. The newly constructed lounge is expected to be located between concourses E and F.

The Design

The planned space will span nearly 6,000 square feet (557 m²) and feature a Dutch-inspired design that celebrates Amsterdam's local culture and heritage. The lounge will feature floor-to-ceiling windows that offer an abundance of natural light and include local art and design. The design will feature a rich palette of blues, greens, and earth tones that evoke Amsterdam's famous waterways and the city's tranquility.

With a large number of American Express Card Members traveling through Schiphol each year, the new Centurion Lounge will be an important addition to our growing global Centurion Lounge Network, said Audrey Hendley, President, American Express Travel. We know travelers are looking for authentic, local experiences when they travel, and the new Centurion Lounge will deliver a premium experience and amenities with a taste of Dutch history and culture.

Amenities

Like many of the Centurion lounges, this lounge will incorporate locally inspired food and beverage menus. There will be a premium dining and a fully stocked bar. For those who want to work, there will be dedicated workstations, abundant power outlets (including USB ports), several seating options, and complimentary high-speed (WiFi) internet.

A coffee bar will pay homage to the drink's importance in Dutch culture as a ritual to unwind and connect with others, contributing to the Lounge's overall feeling of "gezellig" - a local phrase that describes a comforting, pleasant, and convivial atmosphere.

Currently, American Express has 29 Centurion Lounges worldwide, but the network is slowly expanding.

Closing Thoughts

It is great news to see another Centurion Lounge open and more expansion into Europe. I know many customers who keep their premium American Express cards (such as the Platinum Card), mostly for the Centurion Lounge access. I think the smaller size (6,000 square feet) might be a problem with overcrowding and comfort, but we will see once the lounge opens.
